Matthew Lee is a painter who enjoys working directly from life, whether it is creating a “plein air” landscape in the the hills of Provence, or a charcoal portrait sketch of a friend in Memphis, TN where he currently lives. His paintings are often about creating an immediate connection with nature, capturing the essence of the light, forms, and feeling of a place.

Matthew was born in Paris, France to American missionary parents from Mississippi. He spent his childhood mostly in France with furloughs in Mississippi. The rich culture and artistic heritage of France were deeply imprinted on his life. In addition to being a painter, he is a licensed architect.
