“Jackie” – oil on linen, 16 x 20 inches |
As a child, I was never without crayons and paper. My kindergarten drawing of a witch on Halloween won an art contest and was hung in the school’s main lobby. That was the first time I had seen my work with a frame. It was called “art.” Looking back, I see how my art started with a fascination for figures and faces. Over the years, I have found inspiration in daily objects, nature and interior spaces. My oil paintings begin from a series of quick sketches from life, photo references and memory. Along my journey, I have discovered that my art is about coming back to ourselves; a place where we can find clarity, resilience and hope in a world that is unpredictable and chaotic. I aspire to remind the viewer that we are all one thought away from a moment of perspective and presence. From this place, like a child, we can become curious and excited about the unknown and step into fresh ideas, creativity and inspiration.
